The Hon. Dato’ Abdul Rahman Dahlan
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Malaysia
Dato’ Abdul Rahman Dahlan is a Malaysian politician. He is currently the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. Dato’ Rahman earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from Sonoma State University in California in the US. During his time as a student, he founded the North California UMNO Club in 1984, and was elected Deputy Chairman in 1985. Subsequently, he was elected President of the Malaysian Students Society at Sonoma State University in 1986.
Dato’ Rahman began his political career as Political Secretary to the Sabah Chief Minister in 2003 and became Chief Political Secretary the following year in 2004. He also headed the election machinery operations for Barisan Nasional Youth. In 2004, he was elected as Secretary of UMNO Youth as well as Secretary of Barisan Nasional Youth.
Dato’ Rahman was elected to the Malaysian Parliament in the 2008 General Election for the UMNO-held seat of Kota Belud in Sabah. He also became the Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Backbenchers Club. On 16 May 2013, after the 13th General Election, Dato’ Rahman was appointed as Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government under the cabinet of Prime Minister, Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak.
