Gen. Tan Sri Dr. Zulkifeli Md Zin

General Tan Sri Dr Zulkifeli bin Mohd Zin is presently the 18th Chief of Defence Force, Malaysia effective from 15 June 2011. Born in Pasir Mas, Kelantan on 14 June 1954, he was selected to undertake his Officer Cadet training at the renowned Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst where he earned his commission in 1974. His parent unit was the 2nd Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (RMR) where he served as a Platoon Commander on 9 August 1974. His tour in the Infantry saw him serving with various RMR battalions namely the 6th, 20th and 23rd battalions, and finally commanding the 9th Battalion RMR (Para) from 1993 to 1995. He was the first Commanding Officer after the unit was redesignated as a Parachute Battalion.
During his service, General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Zulkifeli has attended several overseas courses and seminars, among the notable ones being the Support Weapon Course in India in 1978 and ROAC Infantry in Australia in 1982. He was a graduate of the prestigious Royal Thai Army Command and General Staff College in Thailand in 1992, in which he was inducted into their International Hall of Fame in 2011. Apart from that, he is a graduate of the MAF Staff College in 1989 and the MAF Defence College in 1996. He obtained his Master in National Resource Strategy from the internationally renowned National Defence University (NDU) in Washington, USA in 2001. He was inducted into the NDU International Hall of Fame in 2011. He was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Management from the University Tun Abdul Razak on 4 November 2013.
